Economic Development

Many factors impact the economic vitality of Montevallo. The University of Montevallo, the State’s only public liberal arts college, serves as the primary economic engine for the City with approximately 2,400 students enrolled and nearly 700 people employed. Montevallo is also home to The Alabama National Cemetery and American Village which collectively welcomes 100,000+ visitors annually to the City. In addition, Montevallo is a Designated Main Street, which has greatly stimulated commercial development in the central business district. Through partnerships with Main Street Alabama and Main Street America, Montevallo City leaders discovered innovative techniques for breathing new life into aging downtowns which lead to the City’s creation of and investment in Main Street Montevallo through dedicated staffing along with streetscape enhancements and improved infrastructure that resulted in greater walkability, aesthetic improvements, private investment and many new businesses. The Montevallo Chamber of Commerce has been serving business and the community for over 70 years. Established in 1949, the Chamber is a core business organization that supports the economic well being of its members and the community.

Montevallo also has an active Industrial Development Board that is continuously seeking to acquire and promote quality development sites within the City due to the City’s proximity to I-65 and access to rail in certain areas. While Montevallo has experienced significant economic growth in recent years, the City is still actively seeking projects that will further diversify its economy and welcomes the opportunity to assist new and expanding businesses. Therefore, the City appreciates your interest and is eager to be of assistance as you seek information relative to locating or opening a business in the City of Montevallo.
