19th Annual MLK Day Celebration March Monday, January 16, 2023, 10:00 AM
Hosted by the Shelby County, Alabama NAACP. Participants are asked to Lineup at 10:00 AM behind McDonald's on Island Street and will March to Montevallo High School.
A program will be held at Montevallo High School at 11:00 AM featuring Dr. Tracey Morant Adams, South Eastern Regional Director, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
A Rededication Ceremony will follow the program at George Dailey Park honoring George Dailey. George Dailey was the first African American City Council member in Montevallo and is credited for beginning the movement for the City Council to be elected by districts. Montevallo Middle School was formerly Prentice High School, Montevallo's first and only African American High School from 1950-1970. George Dailey was the last principal of this school.
