Montevallo Main Street, an accredited Main Street America™ organization, is dedicated to strengthening the heart of our community, Historic Downtown Montevallo, by encouraging local spending and tourism through promotion of the arts, education, entertainment, outdoor recreation and historic preservation; enhancing existing businesses and attracting new development, thereby creating an inviting place where everyone can thrive.
As a Main Street America™ Accredited program, Montevallo Main Street is a recognized leading program among the national network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities who share both a commitment to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development. All Main Street America™ Accredited programs meet a set of National Accreditation Standards of Performance as outlined by the National Main Street Center.
How do we make our mark on downtown?
Montevallo became a Designated Main Street community in June 2016. With ongoing training and support from Main Street Alabama and Main Street America, Montevallo Main Street works year-round to promote and revitalize our picturesque downtown.
We focus our efforts on the Main Street District, which extends down Main Street from City Hall to Village on Valley, and one street over on each side. Whether you already have a business in downtown Montevallo, or you are interested in starting one, we are here to help you thrive.

Montevallo Main Street follows the National Main Street Center's trademarked 4 Point Approach of Promotion, Design, Economic Vitality, and Organization. We have also added Sustainability as a focus. Our Transformation Strategies, which are the overarching goals we strive to achieve through our work, are:
- Make downtown an engaging atmosphere for people of all ages
- Cultivating an environment for healthy lifestyle options
- Encouraging and celebrating growth in the arts
Annual events and projects:
In addition to supporting existing businesses in the Main Street District and helping recruit new ones, we also focus on the aesthetic beauty of downtown, as well as special events that bring residents and visitors downtown. We gather and examine market data, share information with business owners interested in relocating to Montevallo, and support economic development initiatives. Some of our ongoing projects include:
- Friday Nights at the Cove
- Spring Fling Family Food Truck Fest
- Supporting arts events such as Tinglewood Festival, Arts Fest, Art Walk, Day of the Dead, and Merry Market
- Façade Grant program
- Several street pole banner series including the Veterans' Banners (order at this link), Youth artwork, "Make Your Mark," Historical, and Holiday series
- Print and digital advertising
- Decorating downtown for holidays

Montevallo Main Street is a true public-private partnership. Our program is overseen by an Executive Director, who is a city employee, and by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of local business owners and other stakeholders. The program itself is a 501(c)6 non-profit, and it is financially supported in part by annual memberships purchased by businesses and individuals who support our work.
We frequently partner with regional economic development organizations such as Montevallo Chamber of Commerce, the Shelby County Chamber, 58 INC, UA Center for Economic Development, and others.
